About the Course
Students attending full day will have lunch from 12:30-1, then will work on math and language arts with peers or independently from 1-2pm. Free time (or time to finish work) is 2-2:30pm. Students using our recommended math (The Good and the Beautiful) and language arts programs (McRuffy Press for levels 1-5, Vocabulary Virtuoso for kids testing out of McRuffy) will be working together during this time while students not using our programs will need to work on their own work independently. Parents using our suggested programs will be responsible for testing and placing their child in the appropriate levels, and purchasing these programs so kids can start lessons on August 5th. Full time full day students (3 full days a week) will have access to the digitized McRuffy and Vocabulary Virtuoso programs that they can print out, or can buy their levels printed on the McRuffy Press website. Students attending one or two full days a week that wish to do our recommended programs will need to keep up with lessons kids are doing in class on the days they don't attend. During the math and language arts block, kids will sit with peers working on their same level in math from 1-1:30, then will put math away and sit with peers working on their same level in language arts from 1:30-2. Students needing more time can continue working 2-2:30. Teachers will be circulating to help groups of students as needed. Math will have 3 lessons a week, so full time students won't have extra lessons to complete outside of school (unless they don't finish in class or are struggling with concepts), language arts will have 5 lessons a week, so students will need to be doing lessons outside of school to keep up. A full year's schedule detailing which lessons will be done on which dates is posted in the 25/26 Classes tab under "Math and Reading". Students coming in mid-year for the afternoons will need to decide if they want to jump in where the students are at or if they want to work on their own curriculum.
