Frequently Asked Questions
What ages are your classes for?
We currently have classes for grades K-8 split into 4 groups. We are an academic, school like setting where kids have 3 morning classes during the 9:30-12:30 block each day of the week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays), and lunch, math and reading and free time during the 12:30-2:30 block. Our 2nd-4th, 4th-6th and 6-8th grade groups rotate to their 3 morning classes (each class is in a different room with a different teacher). Our K-2 group stays with one teacher in the back 2 rooms of 2B for all of their morning classes.

How much do classes cost?
Morning classes (9:30-12:30) are $450 per 9-week semester for each day of the week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays). Full day classes are $650 per 9-week semester for each day of the week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays). Payments are due ahead of the semester on the first of the month. We accept cash, check, credit card (with a 4% fee), Zelle, Paypal (as friends and family payments, or with a 3% fee for goods & services). For students on PEP and UA with funds in their accounts, we are also direct pay through the marketplace providers. Students without funds in their account need to pay out of pocket and submit for reimbursement once funded.

Is there a full school year commitment?
No. There is only a semester long commitment to enroll. We have four 9-week semesters during the year. Semester 1 runs 8/5-10/2. Semester 2 runs 10/14-12/18. Semester 3 runs 1/13-3/12 and semester 4 runs 3/31-5/28.

Are all classes drop off?
Parents are always welcome to stay with their child to help them individually as needed, but all classes are drop off unless parents want to stay. If you are interested in being paid to help assist in classes beyond the one your child is in, to help with organizing, planning, prepping or to sub as needed when regular teachers are out, we are often looking for helpers! Reach out to Erika at 305-491-4590 with interest in paid positions (teachers/helpers/subs children do not attend for free - they pay regular price for any classes they attend).

Do kids have to do your suggested math and reading curriculum if they come full day?
Nope! Students not interested in doing our suggested math and language arts curriculum are welcome to work on whatever independent work they would like during the math/la block from 1-2pm. Teachers will be circulating to help students working on our recommended programs though, so students NOT working on these programs will need to have fully independent work. We have laptops, ipads and internet, so students doing online learning programs are welcome to do those during the 1-2pm block (work MUST be educational - no gaming, watching videos or playing around on the internet).

How many students are there in each class?
Our k-2 group will start with up to 10 students per group. We may take up to 12 once the school year gets going depending on the group. Our 2nd-4th, 4th-6th and 6th-8th classes have up to 12 students per group.

Do you have to sign up for all days?
No - we have many flexible sign up options. Students can sign up for mornings only (9:30-12:30), afternoons only (12:30-2:30) or full day (9:30-2:30) and for 1, 2 or 3 days a week (given space).

What happens if we miss days?
We are a homeschool enrichment center, not a school, so do not have an attendance policy. Students can miss class anytime, but should be keeping up with any missed work (in the 2nd-8th grade groups). Refunds, credits and makeup days are not allowed. Classes for the full 9 weeks need to be paid for regardless of whether or not students will be attending all classes.

What Curriculum do you use?
Morning classes each have their own curriculum. You can find these listed under the 25/26 classes tab along with full 9-weeks lesson plans for each class. Students will have a bound notebook for each day they're enrolled which will contain all of the work done in class as well as homework assignments, and parents will have access to the digital versions of these notebooks as well as any additional digital curriculum used. Students staying for afternoons will have recommended math (The Good and the Beautiful) and language arts programs (McRuffy Press for levels 1-5, Vocabulary Virtuoso for kids testing out of McRuffy). Parents will be responsible for testing and placing their child in the appropriate math and LA programs, and purchasing these programs so kids can start lessons on August 5th. Full time full day students (3 full days a week) will have access to the digitized McRuffy and Vocabulary Virtuoso programs that they can print out, or can buy their levels printed on the McRuffy Press website. Students attending one or two full days a week that wish to do our recommended programs will need to keep up with lessons kids are doing in class on the days they don't attend. During the math and language arts block, kids will sit with peers working on their same level in math from 1-1:30, then will put math away and sit with peers working on their same level in language arts from 1:30-2. Students needing more time can continue working 2-2:30. Teachers will be circulating to help groups of students as needed. Math will have 3 lessons a week, so full time students won't have extra lessons to complete outside of school (unless they don't finish in class or are struggling with concepts), language arts will have 5 lessons a week, so students will need to be doing lessons outside of school to keep up. A full year's schedule detailing which lessons will be done on which dates is posted in the 25/26 Classes tab under "Math and Reading". Students coming in mid-year for the afternoons will need to decide if they want to jump in where the students are at or if they want to work on their own curriculum.

What about free time? Is there an outisde space?
Unfortunately we do not have an outside space at Creative Connections. We do have an amazing play room in 2B (where the k-2 group will be all day) filled with tons of toys, blocks, legos, a play kitchen, a light table and an ever-changing assortment of new cool things to play with. We also have a sensory room in 2B which has beads and air dry clay for kids to build creations (that they can take home), and tons of craft supplies in our art room and additional classroom. In 3B which is our older space, we have a piano, tons of board games, and a cozy room with a couch, nugget (floor couch), beanbag chairs and an air hockey table. Students have free time as they arrive from 9:25-9:45, between classes 1 and 2 from 10:30-10:45 (this is also snack time), at lunch time from 12:30-1, and at the end of the day from 2-2:30. All 3 older groups (2nd-4th, 4th-6th and 6th-8th) rotate with their group between 1 class in the art room of 2B and 2 other classes in 3B. The 2-4 group starts in 2B so they can enjoy the playroom and craft areas alongside the K-2 kids before 1st class and during snack time.
