About the Course
Literature is one of 3 rotational classes held on Thursdays for students in grades 2-8. The other 2 classes are Music Theory & History, and Drawing. Students will rotate with their age group (2nd-4th, 4th-6th and 6th-8th) to their 3 45-min classes with a 15 min snack break between their first 2 classes and a 10min break between classes 2 and 3.
We will be doing novel studies in this class, with each age group reading 2 different novels each 9-week term. The youngest group will be reading 3rd grade level literature, the middle group will be reading 5th grade level literature and the oldest will be reading 7th grade level literature. All students should be independently reading at the groups' level. Full book lists for the entire school year along with summaries for parents are available under the "25/26 Novels" tab. Enrolled students will receive instructions on how to access all of the detailed novel study plans for their semester and group, including dates chapters need to be read, questions kids will need to complete at home and project options. Students will have homework every week and will be expected to keep up with reading and completing their literature log (printed for them once per semester and taken back and forth between home and school - also available as a download if they misplace it). Class time will be for discussion and project based learning.

Mrs. Holly
Mrs. Holly has been a CCL parent since early 2023. She helped out and subbed some that first year, then joined us as a full time teacher working 2 days a week in the fall of 2023. She is an amazing history and literature teacher, keeping her students engaged with discussions and hands on activities. We are excited to have Holly continuing teaching the novel studies course on Thursdays for the 25/26 school year.
